Thermocouple Flow Sensor from SleepSense (type 1401) is a reusable, high-precision airflow sensor designed for adult respiratory monitoring during sleep studies (PSG). Comes preassembled to a 90cm cable and terminates in 2x DIN 1.5mm touch-proof (TP) connectors. Integrates seamlessly with compatible PSG systems to deliver accurate airflow measurements.

This Thermocouple Flow Sensor from SleepSense (1401) is engineered to provide reliable and accurate respiratory airflow measurements for adult subjects undergoing sleep studies or other physiology measurements. Utilizing thermocouple technology, the sensor detects temperature changes between inhaled and exhaled air, generating a small analog voltage signal proportional to the airflow. This signal offers a clear and dependable indication of respiratory patterns, essential for diagnosing sleep-related breathing disorders.

Designed for ease of use and subject comfort, the sensor is positioned under the subject's nostrils on the upper lip. Its lightweight and flexible construction ensures minimal discomfort during extended monitoring sessions. DIN 1.5mm touch-proof (TP) connectors facilitate secure and straightforward integration with various polysomnography (PSG) or other physiology recording systems.

Key Features

  • Thermocouple technology for precise detection of respiratory airflow.

  • Reusable design ensures cost-effectiveness and sustainability.

  • Safety DIN connector for secure and compatible system integration.

  • Lightweight and flexible for enhanced subject comfort.

  • Provides clear analog voltage signals corresponding to airflow changes.

  • Operating and Storage Humidity: 5% to 95% non-condensing

Usage Instructions

  1. Gently bend the two nasal prongs forward to prevent insertion into the nostrils, creating a smooth, rounded curve away from the sensor body.
  2. Align the tip of the oral prong with the center of the subject's mouth/upper lip.
  3. Place the sensor under the nostrils, resting on the upper lip.
  4. Route the sensor wires over the subject's ears and secure them under the chin using the provided clasp.
  5. For added stability, tape the wires to both cheeks to reduce tension and enhance signal reliability.
  6. Connect the sensor to the system's thermal-flow input or, if using an interface, to any AC (low-level) channel on the recorder.
  7. Verify that strong, clear signals are being transmitted before commencing the study.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Clean the sensor and cable with a non-corrosive (plastic-safe) cleanser before each use.

  • Ensure the entire sensor assembly is thoroughly dry before reuse.

  • Do not immerse the sensor in disinfectants or sterilizing solutions.
