Application Notes

As with all probes from Otodynamics Ltd, it is important to:

  • Fit a new ear tip before each TEOAE or DPOAE test.
  • Check that the coupler tubes are not contaminated before fitting the tip. If the coupler tubes are contaminated, replace them. We recommend fitting new coupler tubes at regular intervals (approx every 20-40 tests) as a preventive measure.
  • Perform weekly probe QA tests.

To replace a coupler tube first, unplug the probe from the instrument. Remove the tip and then the lid. Remove the coupler tubes by pushing the end of the tubes down onto a hard surface. Pull out the tubes by gripping them. Never remove them by pulling on the cable. Finally, pull the coupler tubes away from the probe. After the new coupler tube has been fitted into the probe, reassemble it in reverse order.

The UGD probes have three holes at the output side, one is for the microphone and the other two are for the loudspeakers.
